Two Steps Up

Small, deliberate, and accountable for every dollar.

We run a few high-impact initiatives at a time and we measure them, because we know what undirected charity does to the communities it means to lift.

Empower individuals by fostering purposeful growth, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity, and driving innovation and research.

That is the mission as written into our bylaws. In practice it means four areas of work: education, research, access to care, and the development of advanced integrative technologies. Nervous system health is an area we know deeply, but it is not the boundary. We fund what solves a genuine problem and makes a measurable difference to someone's well-being and quality of life.

We keep solutions within reach of everyone, including social organizations and underserved communities, through education, coaching, partnerships, and funding for health care innovation. The aim is democratized health care that supports community well-being and holistic development.

We are led by business leaders, entrepreneurs, behavioral health experts, educators, and neuroscientists. We take fiscal responsibility seriously. That is why we focus on a small number of initiatives at a time rather than spreading thin, and why every person we support is asked to take part in outcome tracking.

How we actually operate

We fund

Scholarships and direct grants that pay for care, education, research, and the building of tools that work. Money moves from donors to the individual, initiative, or project that needs it.

We advocate

Funding is not the only way to open a door. We work with partners across the community to have services offered free, on a sliding scale, or at a reduced rate. Often the most effective thing we do is not write a check but change what someone is asked to pay.

No one draws a salary from Two Steps Up. Reviewing applications, negotiating rates with partners, and running the organization are unpaid work, so none of a donation is absorbed before it reaches the person or project it was given for.

Two ways to be part of it

Give, or ask for support. Both take about the same amount of courage.
